Nilah was once asked what she sacrificed to make a pact with the ancient, smiling Ashlesh—a capricious spirit who granted her mastery over the sacred ink that binds spirits and mortals in contract. In reply, Nilah simply laughed. The sacrifice she made for power is long behind her. Now the only thing that matters is how she will wield it.
